MacBook Air 11in (2015) review

Are you sure? Air Still fresh?

It definitely appears as if the time is coming with Apple's MacBook Air 11 inch.

The stunning New 12in MacBook is everything that the Air was originally designed to be: super-sexy, ultra-portable, and durable, and long-lasting. It'll be a major surprise if eventually its successors don't take out the Air in the first place.

However, that day hasn't yet arrived. The new MacBook is priced at PS1050 and the most affordable version of the 2015 version of this 11in Air is PS300 less. Plus, it's more powerful.

There's still an important role for the aging Air within the Apple laptop lineup, even though it's looking a bit outdated in terms of specs.

Silver and black aren't likely to crack.

It's been a half-decade from when the MacBook Airs first appeared. We're all old, but we're not all wiser. While MacBook Air has been a great laptop, and the MacBook Air series has aged beautifully, there are a few indications that it's an old laptop that is moving slowly toward a free bus ticket.

I'm not saying that, but it's a great device. MacBook Air 11 2015 absolutely looks like a high-end device, sporting that quality Apple craftsmanship. It's aluminum, it's light and it's designed like a thin, extremely thin wedge cut from a large cheese wheel.

If you compare it to the new 12in MacBook it could be the closest competitor is the MacBook, and you'll see some design crow's foot showing. The screen's area is pretty large, it's not flat and the black, rubber screen protector that sits on the edge of the screen just doesn't look very 2015.

It's a bit 2011. You might not really care about it, and that's perfectly fine. The MacBook Airs used to be extravagant design statements, and before every family and their grandmother owned one.

Still trim

The benefits of using this MacBook Air 11 remain, however. In comparison to the MacBook Pro 13 to this the Air 11 is alarmingly lightweight. Air 11 weighs 1.06kg. Air 11 is 1.06kg, something that you can carry in your backpack and not notice.

Apple has cut another 90 grams off 12 inches of Macbook design however we're not convinced this alone is worth the PS300 more for.

Do you require more IPS?

The first area where the upgrade begins to become more convincing is in the quality of its screen. Similar to the 13-inch MacBook Air, the MacBook Air 11 is a long way behind the standard of the latest top laptops. First, it's not Retina. Everyone seems to have heard of this word by now however, it's not a good idea to know what it means. Apple believes that you won't be able to see any pixelation when viewing your screen at a normal distance.

It's obvious when you're just only three inches away. The resolution is just 1366 pixels x 768 This is less than many 5-inch phones we test in the present. Since the beginning, we've made use of laptops with smaller screens than our smartphones and tablets However, most premium laptops are now up to speed with the best laptops, at least for a little.

The MacBook Airs aren't. The technology behind the screen is also outdated. If you own a few modern devices that have screens that are IPS, they're probably IPS LCD panels or something similar. They allow you to turn the screen in any direction without appearing as if that image was about wrap into a ball and then die.MacBook Air 11, though it is not a touchscreen, uses TN LCD.

In the end, the character of the display shifts as the display is tilted either forward or back. When you tilt it to the left and it appears more "washed out". If you tilt it back, the entire scene becomes smoky. This isn't a fantastic look. There are better TN screens available and the Air benefit from Apple's natural handling of colors and is overall a impressive example of the technology however for PS750 for a laptop of this size , you're entitled to anticipate more.

Apple was among the first companies to use the use of IPS in screen technology which is why it's disappointing to see the Airs put off on using it for so long. If you're looking for a compact laptop to work from when you're at Starbucks or some other place, perhaps the screen's quality doesn't matter as much.

But it's true that the DPI difference is evident regardless of the task you're performing. Purchase an MacBook Air 11 then try with your friend's 15-inch MacBook Pro and you will be jealous, don't make a mistake.

Cautious upgrades

With the overall treading-water feel of the Air isn't a big surprise that it isn't to the MacBook Pro's latest pressure-sensitive trackpad, as well as the stylish Butterfly keyboard that comes with the 12 inch MacBook. The Air is a traditional pad and keyboard. Both feel good, it's not a big issue However, the impression that it's a unappreciated model is increasing.

The keyboard's name is a good opportunity to ask What is the issue with the 11in MacBook Air too small to type on? The keyboard itself is similar to the size you'll find on larger models, so the key size doesn't matter. However, when you actually use this laptop can feel very different. The slim trackpad and smaller keyboard surround can create that the MacBook Air 11 feel that little bit tight.

It's not about the key spacing it's that your hands don't feel as if they're getting enough room to sit down. This, along with the tiny screen that's pretty low-quality will make people think about the MacBook Air 11 2015 as more of a portable laptop, not one that you be kept at your desk and work from anywhere. Light and slim is great however, sometimes you just need something more powerful.

Well-rounded shoulders

However, this year's Macbook Air 11in isn't entirely identical to the previous year. First of all, there's been an evolutionary shift in the processor technology. Now, you can get the Intel Core i5 1.6GHz dual-core processor that's included in the Broadwell generation, which is the most recent Intel "family" of processors. Although it's not a major performance change, it does offer some extra power over the previous Haswell models, on both the CPU and GPU sides. For everyday tasks like web browsing, video and even a few games the MacBook Air 11 runs like an absolute dream.

But, for anything more significant, you'll need to think about upgrading the Air's hardware or switch to a different MacBook model. Although the CPU is an extra bit of power than the PS1000 plus 12 inch MacBook's Intel M processor The Air 11 only has 4GB RAM by default however it doesn't gain the SSD upgrades offered by the larger models.

I would highly recommend having more RAM if you're keeping a number of tabs open in your browser, wish to perform any video editing work, or be managing a number of large images. 4GB isn't much for laptops nowadays.

Storage hunters

Its SSD speed is also somewhat disappointing. My test sample was the 128GB base drive and its performance was nowhere comparable to the laptops in Apple's line of. I've had 300MB per second write speed, and reading speeds of 650MB per second. It sounds good until you discover that the latest MacBook Pro 13 handles around 1300MB/sec read speed and 650MB write.

It's clear that the MacBook Air 11 is living in the past in more than one way. This may sound awful, but it's just an indication that if you're looking for a laptop that performs the MacBook Air 11 isn't it. However, that's not the purpose of this MacBook Air 11 is about. It's rather portable and will last for a long time old while charging.

It's not quite at the level as the 13, inch Air however, with the nine hours of battery life that Apple claims to have Apple the MacBook is a fantastic working horse. I've had a full day's worth of work out of a single charge as I hopped between coffee shops like many MacBook users seem to love to do.

For those also seeking to transform into the MacBook Air 11 into the heart of a bigger house setup Apple have upgraded its Thunderbolt connection to standard v2. It gives you double the bandwidth that you can use 20Gb/s, which can output to a 4K display in the native resolution.

The previous Airs didn't come with this. After all our suggestions against making this your primary PC, just add the keyboard, mouse and monitor, and it's up to the task if just need basic features.

Apple MacBook Air 11 inch (2015) Verdict

Similar to as with the MacBook Air 13in screen, this year's 11 inch MacBook Air is slipping somewhat. In spite of some significant, beneficial changes, some elements of the design and screen's performance just aren't quite up to the very best. Air 11 Air 11 is cast in the worst light and arrives just ahead of it's 12-inch MacBook. For the geek this might not be sufficient for you anymore.

However, the Air is still a great product in its own way. It's priced at PS750 instead of PS1050 and still has a great feel and lasts a long time without a charge.  MacBook Air 11 inch isn't what it was in the past but it'll remain the best option for a few people.

The design is getting old and the screen is a bit old-fashioned but it's still the status of royalty.

PRO'S

1) Yet supremely mobile

2) The typical Mac usability

3) The power is sufficient for almost every day computing
